Men's Monday Meme - Question 5 - My Answer
Topic: Men's Monday Meme What is your favorite discipline tip? Who handles most of the discipline in your home, you or your wife? Why? This is another trick question for us. We actually both handle the discipline and we try, but aren't always, to be on the same page. I probably need to step up and be more of a leader in this. It's not that I make my wife do all of the discipline or anything like that. We really do share the responsibility, but I need to take that responsibility off of my wife's shoulders and step up to the plate as the father of the family. With Joshua and Jacob's problems, we do have a unique situation. Discipline that should work with normal kids, doesn't always work with kids that have asperger's or sensory issues. Sometimes they act out because there is no other way for them to communicate their frustrations. They don't understand the proper way to handle their emotions. We need to train them in the proper way but that is a long hard road. In the meantime, we can't actually punish them for something they don't understand they are doing wrong. On the other hand, John Allen sees them getting away with stuff that he would never have gotten away with and it upsets him. He doesn't understand that he knows that those particular things are not appropriate, but his brothers don't. As you can see, it is a very difficult situation and a situation where we would covet your prayers. We have come to realize also that perhaps we need to be retrained and not our children. We are presently getting some help in this area. Help that I will explain in a later post (my lips are sealed). Don't get excited. Super Nanny is not making a visit to the Tinkel household. One discipline suggestion that I will keep, but one that I often find hard to follow, is to never discipline when angry. I tend to do that far too often, and then I catch myself, unfortunately sometimes too late. Ah, well! As I said before, we would really covet your prayers in this area. Thanks for stopping by this week! For our next Men's Monday Meme, I am going to begin a new once or twice (I haven't decided) a month special question called a "Hot Topic" question. Tune in later tonight to see what it's all about!
Blog Hop for Haiti
Mood: energetic Topic: Ministry No I'm not playing leap frog with the boys...AND...don't ask me what a Blog Hop is because I'm just new to this and I'm still not sure what I'm doing ! You'll just have to trust me on this one and maybe we'll both figure it out with time. Anyway here's the deal. Larger Family Life is doing this really neat thing to raise money for Haiti. They have started a blog hop. A blog hop is kind of like one of those old chain letter thingies that you used to get, only you're not sending money to anyone, and this is legal . If you are a blogger, you put a post on your blog inviting folks to donate money to Compassion International's Haiti fund. Kind of like this note. After you do that, you put your link on the MckLinky that is listed on their website or the one below (they are one and the same). You are to visit the 5 websites that are listed above your website. They explain it kind of like "dropping in for a cup of coffee". They encourage you to leave a comment on the websites if you feel led to. There is only one stipulation. In order to join the blog hop, you have to donate at least $1.00 to Compassion International's Haiti fund. Easy enough, and a fun way to donate money. Here's my quandary! I'm a BCM International Missionary and love BCM but we also have (as you well know ) a Compassion International child and really like Compassion International's ministry. So, I came up with a plan. We were planning on donating $10 to the Compassion International fund and $10 to the BCM fund anyway. So, since the original blog hop is for Compassion International, if you will make a donation to Compassion and email me with the receipt that you get and, then, leave a comment below, then I will donate $1 extra to the BCM fund (up to $50). This will be on top of the $10 that we are already donating. So, both Compassion and BCM will benefit. Of course, you can also donate to BCM if you would like as well. Both links will be included below. Now, Larger Family Life is also keeping track of how much money is donated to Compassion, so you have to email them as well. I know that what I just said may be complicated, so let me go over it again in hopefully simple steps.
If this post wasn't clear, and I'm sure it may not have been, Larger Family Life has explained it much clearer, so go on over there and read their directions as well. OK, here's all of the links that I promised. Ministry Focus - BCM International - Day of Prayer and Fasting
Mood: a-ok Topic: BCM International Many times folks ask how they can pray for us and our ministry. Sometimes it's not easy telling people the ins and outs of a ministry and how to exactly pray for things. I often have a hard time doing it. I was thrilled when I got this recent email from the president of BCM International announcing the prayer requests for BCM's annual "Day of Prayer and Fasting". It made it very easy to write to you all and give you a list of things that you can pray for that has to do with our umbrella mission of BCM. Some of these prayer requests involve things that would effect our ministry at Good News Mission. Others, although they may not have to do with our personal ministry, have to do with the ministry of other missionaries that are good friends and are near and dear to our hearts. We feel that all of BCM's ministries are important, however, so please, if you feel lead, join us on January 20th for a day of Fasting and Prayer. Below, I have copied and pasted the letter that was sent. For some reason things don't always copy and paste well on my blog, but I think that you can easily read it. Thanks ahead of time for your prayers for our personal ministry and the ministry of BCM International.
Day of Prayer and Fasting January 20, 2010
As we begin a new year it was determined that it would be good to start with a special day of prayer and fasting.
The thought is to allow all of us in the Global BCM Family to start 2010 with a renewed appreciation for God and His blessings and to bring our worship and thanksgiving to Him in a corporate manner. For seventy-four years He has led this ministry. He has provided the personnel and resources needed to touch hundreds of thousands, yea, perhaps millions of lives with the good news of Jesus Christ. We come to celebrate His faithfulness and to offer our thanksgiving and praise.
On that day, we want to also invoke His continued blessing and ask Him to enable us, by His grace and power to continue to reach the nations of the world. We recognize that we can do nothing in our own strength or initiative.
Prayer and the recognition of our dependence on God has been a part of BCM since its inception and it continues to this day. That is why daily times of prayer are conducted here at our International Ministry Center coupled with a full morning of prayer on the third Wednesday of each month, spontaneous prayer requests and the weekly Prayer Link. Our Asian Prayer Center in India hosts “prayer warriors” on a 24/7 basis. BCM Tamil Nadu, India has a monthly day of prayer as do many other BCM global entities. Prayer is part of who we are.
So, on January 20 we hope that you will set aside a significant portion of your day or evening to pray. Get together with your co-workers and invite your friends and supporters to also join with you. Let’s bombard the throne room of heaven with our praises and petitions.
ITEMS FOR PRAYER
1. Pray for our global ministry – that we will be effective in making Christ known. Colossians 4:2-6 2. Ask the Lord to send us more missionaries. Our greatest needs are in the USA, Canada, Europe, Africa and Brazil. Matthew 9:36-38 3. Our International Board of Directors, President Marty Windle, Regional and Country Leaders need wisdom as they plan for the future development of our ministry. They are asking the Lord to make His plan known. 4. Pray that the Lord will meet the support need of all of our missionaries, associate missionaries and short-termers. Many are experiencing some shortage due to the collapse of the global economy. 5. Pray also that all of the “projects” will be funded. Camp construction in West Ukraine, in Iquitos, Peru, and the purchase of a camp/conference center in the Republic of Ireland are just a few of our major projects. 6. Give thanks for those who pray for us, support us and assist us as volunteers. 7. Prayer for ministry - Master Trainer Conference in The Netherlands – January 20-23 (at least 11 nations are represented) - Holy Land Tour – February 28 - March 11, 2010 - Camps and other evangelistic outreaches in the Southern Hemisphere - Bible Clubs, school ministry – evangelistic and discipleship ministry - Church planting efforts around the world 8. Pray for your continent, country and area of ministry.
Let’s join our hearts together in worship and prayer expecting great things from God.
Yours, for His glory,
Rev. Martin Windle Rev. Bob Evans President International Representative

New Thru 30 - Day 3 - Matthew 24:1 - 28:10 & Acts 1:1 - 4:37
Mood: a-ok Topic: Bible Reading & Devotions OK, I know I'm late. I put my explanation over on my blogspot blog for why I am a couple days late in posting Day 3. I really should be on Day 5 tonight, but all of the stuff going on with my internet got me behind. I will catch up this weekend, so if you are following along, keep checking back. Anyway, click here for the link to blogspot. Friday, 15 January 2010
Thursday's Child - The Disaster In Haiti
Mood: sad Topic: Compassion International I blogged a few days ago about my first reaction after watching reports of the disaster in Haiti. It really made me think about my family, my ministry, my friends, and my family's Compassion International child, Marcelo. Today, I watched a heart wrenching video from Wess Stafford, the President of Compassion International, talking about Haiti and it's workers there. Here it is:
Click here or on the banner below to send donations to Compassion International for the Haiti Fund. I have also been in contact with our mission BCM International. They also have a fund for the Haitian disaster. You can reach it by clicking here or on their banner below. It will take you to the BCM donation page. To donate, just click the box by the word "project", and simply type the word Haiti in the box by "project name" then follow the instructions. BCM has assured me that 100% of all donations designated for Haiti will reach Haiti. I am sure that is probably the case with Compassion International as well, but to be sure, please read their donation page carefully or contact them personally. But, please, whether you are able to donate or not, please pray for the people of Haiti. Pray for the Christian workers from BCM International that are there and for the workers from other organizations like Compassion International. We may not all be able to donate financially, but we can all pray, and that is what these people need most. With God all things are possible. "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20 - New International Version
