MckMama's on a Trip
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Compassion International
Compassion Bloggers: Kenya 2010

No, not my MckMama, the MckMama. Sarah is away right now, but I'm talking about someone else.

Do you remember me talking about having the shock of my life when I got about 300 page hits in one day a few weeks ago. If you recall, it was because I had commented on someone's question about what to do for his wife on Valentine's Day. I told them about something that I had done years ago for Sarah and he ended up doing it for his wife. His wife was McMama~a very big and highly respected blogger. She blogged about it and left a link to my blog.

Well, she and her husband sponsor a couple of children with Compassion International (a couple after my own heart) and they were selected to go on one of Compassion's blogging trips to Kenya. Compassion takes several bloggers on a trip to meet their sponsored children and to tour the Compassion work in that area. In return, the bloggers then blog about their trip every day for the whole time they are there. Well, the trip began today. You can find out all about their trip by clicking here or, if you are a twitterer, you can click here to go to their twitter page. To find out more about Compassion, click here.

Another Creation - You Know What I'm Preparing You for Don't You?
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Ministry

Yep. It's another creation using the Graphic's Toolbox. You do know that I'm about to write a review for this don't you? Do you think that I just might recommend it? You betcha!

This creation is a Baby Shower invitation that I for a lady whose children occasionally come to the mission. Even if they don't always come, we try to minister to all of the people that live in the low income housing area.

Anyway, I thought I would combine a little ministry with a little TOS Crew reviewing. Hope you like it.

Ministry Moment & Have I Mentioned that I Love This Program?
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Ministry

You know, sometimes people think of doing big things when they think of being a missionary. They imagine going deep into a jungle and winning a savage tribe to the Lord. Or, moving to a third world country and working with street children or the homeless. Maybe you think of going to a more modern country but a country that is steeped in false religions. You might have to learn a new language and leave your friends and families for years at a time.

All those things could happen, but more often they don't. Many times it's not great things that happen, but little things. There are times when God does a miracle and many are led to Christ quickly, but often it is the little everyday things that you do that show God to the unsaved.

Really that's the way of all ministry. Often you don't see any results, but you keep plugging away and showing Christ in the small things that you do. Today was one of those days. One of the ladies that Sarah is discipling invited us to her boyfriends birthday party. She asked Sarah to help her bake a couple of special cakes and prepare for the festivities. The following is the result of her efforts.

Can you tell that those are golf clubs in a golf bag?

And this is a golf club hitting a ball that says 46 on it.

Sarah did a really good job. Harley didn't expect it at all.

She then asked if I would make a certificate for him because she was giving him money to buy a hunting and fishing license for his birthday. Since I have been using the Graphics Toolbox program in order to review on the TOS Homeschool Crew, I jumped at the chance to make it for her. This is what it looked like.

The big hunting and fishing license that he wanted was one that included all of the animals that you can hunt in TN - deer, turkey, grouse, etc. Can you tell that I like Graphics Toolbox?

Anyway, pray for this whole family. Sarah especially has been a friend, adviser and counselor to them, and we are hoping that the little things is what will lead the unsaved members to the Lord.

Really it's the little things that count anyway in life. It's the day to day sometimes mundane things that people see. Remember, just because you don't go to the jungle or to some foreign country does not mean that you aren't a missionary. You can be a missionary to your neighbors just by being an example and a blessing to them every day.

Surprise Announcement Number One!
Mood:  happy
Topic: Compassion International

I told you a couple of days ago that I had a couple of surprise announcements to make. I also added a note to my dear mother-in-law that it wasn't anything like a new child on the way. For us, however, it is like a new child.

We have a new Compassion International Child!

We found out about a program called the Correspondence Sponsor program. Periodically, there are businessmen, other individuals, or companies that are able to financially sponsor a child but aren't able to correspond with their child. Since Compassion considers writing just as important as the financial support, they look for sponsors that would be willing to take on the correspondence of those children.

When we signed up a couple of weeks ago, the Compassion representative said that it would be a few weeks to a couple of months before we heard. I began checking daily anyway, and yesterday when I checked, lo and behold, underneath Marcelo's name was a new name.

Feyber Pena is a 13 year old from Colombia. We have already written a letter to him. He lives in the small town of Monetery which is south of Bogota. We have heard about some horror stories about what they do to poor children that live close to Bogota. Usually they are street children but we are praying for Feyber and his family as well. Please join with us in praying for him and continue to pray for Marcelo. If you wish to know more about Compassion International, please click here.
