Conquering My Fears!
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Family

Anybody that knows me very well knows some of my weaknesses. Since I'm about to tell you how I kind of conquered one of them, I guess I may as well tell you what it is. So, here goes...I have a terrible fear of heights! So, how did I "kind of" overcome my fear? I went on Adventure Mountain with John Allen today! Adventure Mountain is a really cool ropes course that just opened up this year at Dollywood. You can choose between three levels, but one of the workers said that there really is no difference in the skill level, they were just higher. We chose level one to start, but, let me tell you, it was plenty high enough. Our level had approximately 20 challenges in it. Some were walking across things while holding on to hanging ropes or rails, while others you just had to rely on your balance. The pictures below and the video above give you some idea of what it's like. Of course your harnessed in and attached to an above cable. It was really fun. There is a cheat, where if you don't want to do any of the challenges you can skip it by walking across short bridge to the next obstacle. I did all of the challenges but about 3. John Allen did them all. How did I do it? Well, one way was that I just refused to look down. Another reason was that I felt like I needed to be brave because John Allen was a little nervous. Still, another reason was that the whole thing was very safe and you felt fairly secure. But, probably the big reason was that someone was wearing a t-shirt that had Philippians 4:13 on it.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

That was really the key to it all. I was able to overcome my fear through just trusting God. I feel like I can do anything now. I wonder if Dollywood has a ride to cure claustrophobia?

PS. Joshua went on it with Uncle Franklin the night before and did level two. So I still have a little catching up to do.

PSS. They have a really neat youngster ropes course called "Camp Teachittome" that Jacob loved. There really is something for everyone!

That's a Level 2 Challenge - I didn't do that one.

This one I did do - And got wet in the process!

They had something similar to this on our level, but I chose another way to cross over. There were usually about three choices as to how you could get to the next platform. I usually chose the less terrifying looking ones.

An artist rendering of Adventure Mountain. Usually the artistic drawings are usually elaborated to make it look more fantastic than it really is. This drawing, however, is not far off the mark. It was cool!

Janet,

It doesn't cost anything more than the entrance fee to Dollywood. There is a big zip line thing that they have that does cost extra, but Adventure Mountain doesn't cost anything extra. It's included in the admission price. Hope your boys enjoy it!

Suzanne,

When were you there? Please don't tell me you were there last Friday and Saturday! I would have hated not trying to meet up with you if you were!

I must confess- I'm terrified of heights! I used to climb trees as a child and NOT have the guts to descend. After coming to my aid on more than one occassion, my parent's and grandparent's finally banned me from climbing all together. Maybe I need to head to this course to overcome my fear! I do have to admit that it looks pretty incredible. I know the other members in my family- menfolk especially- would really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing and for linking up to Field Trip Friday! Blessings!:)
