Our End of the Summer Prayer Letter
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Ministry

For those of you who may be new to my blog, we are full time missionaries that work with low-income folks in the town that we live in. We have a ministry building called "Good News Mission" that has the small house that we live in attached and we are located right across the street from the projects. My wife, Sarah, tries to keep our prayer and financial supporters up to date with what's going on by putting out a prayer letter every couple of months or so. I also blog, from time to time, about our ministry as well, but she does a much better job at communicating our ministry than I do. Below is the latest news letter that she wrote. If you wish to read some of our older prayer letters, just click on the prayer letter tab in the left column of my blog. Thanks for all of your prayers!

Tinkel 2011 summer ministry newsletter

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word what a glory He sheds on our way...when we do His good will He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey...trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

What a summer it has been. In June we started our day camps at the Mission. I prayed for 40 children and adults and we averaged about 32!! God did amazing things this summer! He brought back families who had not been here in a while and one of John Allen's friends accepted Christ as his Savior. Please pray for him as he is struggling right now with things that are going on at home...Satan is already attacking. This year we had some teen aged volunteers who got to experience what ministry is like here at the Mission. They were such blessings and were such a great help. My ladies loved them and were impressed by the patience and love they had for the children...especially the very young ones. My prayer for these young teen aged volunteers is that God would bless them in their future endeavors in serving Him. They had such sweet hearts. You don't see to many young teenagers giving up their summer to volunteer their time being in charge of games, listening and teaching verses to at times, very rambunctious children. They were such a light of Jesus to children who are hurting and just needing someone to take the time to love them. The Bible lessons that Tim taught this summer were from our Mission BCM's (Bible Centered Ministries) God Gives us Victory. It talks about the Giants that we face as children of God such as Fear, Unbelief, Disobedience, Discouragement, Revenge, Pride, My Own Way, Self, Selfishness just to name a few. The kids soaked it up!! One Sunday Tim did a review and had the kids tell the adults about the different giants that they had studied about over the summer. With little prompting they were able to quote the corresponding verse that went with each story/giant!! I was very impressed as were the adults. When it came to singing songs there were two that the kids really loved. They were Faith is Just Believing and Trust and obey. I cried while the kids were singing...to hear their sweet voices raised to God and knowing what they are going home to blessed me so much. Its funny because I was wondering "God are they getting it." Is the getting up early in the morning, buying stuff out of our own pocket and not sure if we will get reimbursed because of lack of donations coming in, is it really worth it? God showed me in a very humbling way that yes this is where I need you to be....stay faithful and keep your eyes on the prize. It has been a very good summer of blessings and growth. On July 22nd our oldest turned 15!! Where did the time go?? Just yesterday he was a baby in my arms and now he is growing into a very neat young man. He has been such a sweet blessing to me and his dad. The love that he has for his brothers and the concern that he is getting for his friends and others to know Jesus is so precious to me. When John Allen was born Tim and I prayed over him...that God would use him for His glory and that he would become a mighty man of faith. My prayer for all of our boys is that God would use each of them for His glory and that God would give Tim and I the wisdom and discernment to raise them to love, obey, serve and worship God with all their heart soul and mind. There have been a lot of bumps along the way but to see the fruit when you least expect it has been precious.
Please pray for:
1. Our support
2. That God would give Tim and I discernment for our children and for Good News Mission
3. The people we minister to
4. Good News Mission
5. Our extended family

Praises:
1. Salvation of John Allen's friend
2. A good summer of ministry
3. The volunteers we had this summer who were such blessings
4. Unexpected donations of items and financial
5. His provision in all areas of our family and ministry

Thank you so much for your support and for being our Mission partners. The prayer and financial support have blessed us to no end and we praise God for your faithfulness. The fruit that we are seeing is a testament of God's blessing over this ministry. May God richly bless you in your endeavors of furthering the kingdom.

Hearts greatly blessed,
Sarah & Tim Tinkel

The Faces of Good News Mission
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Ministry
Mrs. Lass, our missionary friend that has been helping us this summer, took some photos of this week's Good News Mission day camp and posted them on Facebook. They were so good that I decided to steal them from her (with her permission Laughing). I also stole her title. Thanks Mrs. Lass!

Rappin' at the Mission!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Ministry

Mrs. Lass, our great friend and fellow missionary, brought some help for day camp this week - two of her grand daughters and two teenage boys. The boys are two of seven boys that were adopted into a fantastic family that live close to Mrs. Lass. She works with the brothers and any other youth or child that comes to the Bible study that the boys' parents lead in their home. The younger of the two, 18 year old John, has been helping lead games and has been a great fixer upper for us. Ramon, his 20 year old brother, has been helping with crowd control and...he just happens to be a fantastic Christian rapper. He is giving a half hour concert on Wednesday if you are close enough to come Smile. If not, John Allen taped him giving a preview to the kids at day camp today. It's not great quality (we don't have a great video camera) but it's good enough. Enjoy - more may be coming later!

Ahhh! What a Hectic Couple of Days It's Been!
Mood:  happy
Topic: Ministry

We have officially started our summer day camps and it has been wild! I will have pictures to share soon. We have been averaging about 30 a day so far and are short on staff this year. Two of our major helpers from the past have been unable to assist us so far. One, a fellow missionary from Georgia is going on a mission trip to Romania during the month of June and can't join us until our July weeks. The other, a mother that attends the mission regularly, is helping her young daughter (early 20's) whose husband just passed away. Please pray for our staff situation and for these two ladies as they leave for a mission trip and assist their grieving daughter.

We do have some Junior Staff members this year. Four youth are helping us (my son, John Allen being one of them) with crowd control, verse memorization, cleaning up, serving...just about everything. They have been wonderful and a BIGGGGG help! We also have a couple of the mothers from the area that help and a couple of young people in their early 20's that also help with game time, etc. Please praise for the helpers that we have and pray for their daily stamina and challenges.

I still teach the Bible stories and Sarah still does the crafts and prepares lunch for the workers. This year our Bible lessons are from a series called "God Gives Us Victory" - all from the Old Testament. We are beginning with Joshua leading the Israelites into the Promised Land and will also cover Samson, Ruth, Gideon, Samuel, and David. Each lesson talks about a "Giant" in our lives that needs to be defeated. For example, the first two days we talked about the Giant of Fear and Unbelief and how they should be replaced with Faith and Belief. Please pray that the kids will have open hearts and minds during the Bible lessons and that God would speak through me and all of the workers that are involved.

This year we are also serving breakfast to the area children. We were contacted by Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville to see if we would be interested in their Summer Breakfast Program. Sarah and another mother that attends Good News Mission had to travel to Nashville for training last month. Everything is provided by Second Harvest. It has been a real blessing. We serve breakfast from 9 until 10 and have been averaging about 20 each morning. We begin our Day Camps as soon as the kids are done eating breakfast. The local public schools have a summer lunch program and they come daily with lunches for all of the kids as well - another wonderful blessing! Please praise for this opportunity and pray that this new breakfast program will be used as an outreach to the neighborhood.

Thanks for all of your prayers. I'll have updates throughout the summer so keep watching.
