A Fantastic Blog about a Fantastic Place
Most of you know by now that I am a big fan of Disney. AND, if you have been reading my blog for a while, you also know that I am a big fan of Jeff Dixon. Jeff Dixon is a fantastic preacher, author, and, also, a Disney aficionado. He writes a great blog that gives some really neat tid-bits of the life of Disney and his great theme parks and mixes in some life lessons that we can all learn from. It's one of those blogs where you crave a new post. It makes my day when I open my email and find a notice that Jeff has written something new. His blog must be a well kept secret, because it only has six fans so far, but I'm hoping that I can boost his day and hopefully the days to come of some of you by introducing you to each other. Just click here to find out what all of the excitement is about. I'm also including Jeff's blog in my favorite blog section in the left hand column. If you like his blog, why not leave him a comment. I know he'd be glad you stopped by. Happy Reading!
Ever Think About Starting A Blog...
Did you ever think about starting a blog but wondered how you would do? Maybe you thought that no one would read it or that you weren't a very good writer. Did you ever wonder how other bloggers started and what they had to say in their very first blog post? Well, wonder no more! A blogging friend of mine from "Training Children Up For Christ" came up with a fun idea. Why not do a "First Post Link Up". And have some experienced bloggers post links to the very first post that they ever wrote?
Well, I thought this sounded like a fun idea, but when I went back to look at what I had written I cringed! Of course, I haven't gotten much better, so I thought, "Why Not", so I posted the link. Wonder what is says? You'll have to head on over to the "Training Children Up For Christ" blog by clicking on any one of the hi-lighted links above. Have fun reading, and...please be nice to me after you read it!

Our End of the Summer Prayer Letter
For those of you who may be new to my blog, we are full time missionaries that work with low-income folks in the town that we live in. We have a ministry building called "Good News Mission" that has the small house that we live in attached and we are located right across the street from the projects. My wife, Sarah, tries to keep our prayer and financial supporters up to date with what's going on by putting out a prayer letter every couple of months or so. I also blog, from time to time, about our ministry as well, but she does a much better job at communicating our ministry than I do. Below is the latest news letter that she wrote. If you wish to read some of our older prayer letters, just click on the prayer letter tab in the left column of my blog. Thanks for all of your prayers!
Tinkel 2011 summer ministry newsletter
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word what a glory He sheds on our way...when we do His good will He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey...trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
What a summer it has been. In June we started our day camps at the Mission. I prayed for 40 children and adults and we averaged about 32!! God did amazing things this summer! He brought back families who had not been here in a while and one of John Allen's friends accepted Christ as his Savior. Please pray for him as he is struggling right now with things that are going on at home...Satan is already attacking. This year we had some teen aged volunteers who got to experience what ministry is like here at the Mission. They were such blessings and were such a great help. My ladies loved them and were impressed by the patience and love they had for the children...especially the very young ones. My prayer for these young teen aged volunteers is that God would bless them in their future endeavors in serving Him. They had such sweet hearts. You don't see to many young teenagers giving up their summer to volunteer their time being in charge of games, listening and teaching verses to at times, very rambunctious children. They were such a light of Jesus to children who are hurting and just needing someone to take the time to love them. The Bible lessons that Tim taught this summer were from our Mission BCM's (Bible Centered Ministries) God Gives us Victory. It talks about the Giants that we face as children of God such as Fear, Unbelief, Disobedience, Discouragement, Revenge, Pride, My Own Way, Self, Selfishness just to name a few. The kids soaked it up!! One Sunday Tim did a review and had the kids tell the adults about the different giants that they had studied about over the summer. With little prompting they were able to quote the corresponding verse that went with each story/giant!! I was very impressed as were the adults. When it came to singing songs there were two that the kids really loved. They were Faith is Just Believing and Trust and obey. I cried while the kids were singing...to hear their sweet voices raised to God and knowing what they are going home to blessed me so much. Its funny because I was wondering "God are they getting it." Is the getting up early in the morning, buying stuff out of our own pocket and not sure if we will get reimbursed because of lack of donations coming in, is it really worth it? God showed me in a very humbling way that yes this is where I need you to be....stay faithful and keep your eyes on the prize. It has been a very good summer of blessings and growth. On July 22nd our oldest turned 15!! Where did the time go?? Just yesterday he was a baby in my arms and now he is growing into a very neat young man. He has been such a sweet blessing to me and his dad. The love that he has for his brothers and the concern that he is getting for his friends and others to know Jesus is so precious to me. When John Allen was born Tim and I prayed over him...that God would use him for His glory and that he would become a mighty man of faith. My prayer for all of our boys is that God would use each of them for His glory and that God would give Tim and I the wisdom and discernment to raise them to love, obey, serve and worship God with all their heart soul and mind. There have been a lot of bumps along the way but to see the fruit when you least expect it has been precious.
Please pray for:
1. Our support
2. That God would give Tim and I discernment for our children and for Good News Mission
3. The people we minister to
4. Good News Mission
5. Our extended family
1. Salvation of John Allen's friend
2. A good summer of ministry
3. The volunteers we had this summer who were such blessings
4. Unexpected donations of items and financial
5. His provision in all areas of our family and ministry
Thank you so much for your support and for being our Mission partners. The prayer and financial support have blessed us to no end and we praise God for your faithfulness. The fruit that we are seeing is a testament of God's blessing over this ministry. May God richly bless you in your endeavors of furthering the kingdom.
Hearts greatly blessed,
Sarah & Tim Tinkel

If you read my post yesterday, you know I've been blog hoppin' with "Destination Disney". There's a bunch of folks that have already submitted their links to the Destination Disney page. Why don't you hop on over there and see what some of their favorite "G" things are at Disney. Just click on the Destination Disney banner above. BUT...not until you read my article first if you haven't already!

Destination Disney - The Letter G
I've been thinking a lot of Walt Disney World lately. For those of you who may not know, I began working at Disney fresh out of high school. It was my first real job! Well, it wasn't really "fresh" out of high school. I graduated, toured Europe with "The Sound of America" that summer, we moved to Florida in Sept./Oct. and I got the job at Disney in November of 1979. I ended up working there for nearly 14 years. I worked there before college, during college and then, part time, after college when I taught school. My dad retired from Disney.
As you can see, Disney means a lot to me. Unfortunately, for many reasons, I haven't been back there in nearly 10 years. I'm long overdue for a visit, and the time seems to be right. The kids are old enough to enjoy it, John Allen's been asking about it, so we are planning a trip in the Spring to Walt Disney World. Shhhh! Don't tell the kids. We are going to couple it with an also long overdue trip to visit some of our friends and supporters in Florida. AND...notice I said "spring"...right after tax return time!
The Contemporary was the first Disney
hotel I ever stayed at!
Anyway, I digress. A good friend of mine, who just happens to be my TOS Homeschool Crew boss, is also a fan of Disney and has a meme on her blog called "Destination Disney". Recently she has been going through the letters of the alphabet and asking her meme contributors to think of favorite things at Disney World that begin with the letter of the week. This weeks letter is G and it's not too hard for me to think of things to write about. Here goes...
The Grand Floridian - The Grand Floridian wasn't one of the original hotels on the WDW monorail system when the park opened. It was built quite a few years later. But, it holds a special memory for me because that is where Sarah and I were officially engaged. I say "officially" because we were really all but engaged except for the ring. We had been planning our wedding over the phone for months. She in Tennessee and me in Florida. She was coming to visit for Christmas and I was looking for the special time and special place to present her with the ring. The Grand Floridian was it. After a wonderful meal at one of the great Grand Floridian Restaurants, we went out on to the Beach, sat down on a swing and I popped the question. Well it wasn't really a "popped" question, but you know what I mean. It was all very sweet and romantic until we heard a hiccup from over at one of those beach chairs that have a hood on it, and this poor drunk man says, in a very slurred voice, "Congratulations"!
A very early on picture of The Golf Resort.
The letter "G" also reminds me of The Golf Resort hotel. The Golf Resort isn't there anymore. Oh, the buildings are, but it's not called that. It's now called "The Shades of Green" and is a special resort for members of the military. For a while, I worked at the Polynesian Village Hotel in the shops there. Well, the same supervisors that were over the Poly shops were also over the shops at The Golf Resort. Every so often, maybe once a year or so, they would need a person over at the Golf Resort because someone called in sick, and I would head over there. The shops there were quiet compared to the Poly. It was always an enjoyable and relaxing time to work at the Golf Resort. And, you sometimes would even meet a pro golfer who was staying there. Those were good times and good memories.
Grape Juice - Now, you might be thinking "what in the world does grape juice have to do with Disney World?" Well, let me tell you. Growing you I was a country boy from a small town in PA. I didn't get out much and things pretty much stayed the same. I never knew that there could be any other types of grape juice other than the regular purple grape juice. Until my first trip to Disney World, of course. That's when David, my brother, and I came upon a Welch's Grape Juice stand in the Magic Kingdom. We tried red grape juice and white grape juice as well as the regular purple grape juice. It was a new thing and we loved it. More great memories.
What "G" Disney memories wouldn't include Goofy! We loved Goofy. David even tried out for the part of Goofy one time, but, as anyone that has been to Disney knows, Goofy is often in shows and needs to dance. Needless to say, being PK's (preacher's kids) and being from a small town, neither one of us could dance very well so he didn't get the job. Still, Goofy remains one of my favorites. I enjoy seeing him whenever we go to the parks.
I'm sure I could go on and on with "G" things at Disney World that bring back fond memories, but four is enough. Besides, I need to save some memories for H, I, J, K...well you get the picture. Happy Disney Memories and, remember...shhhhh...don't say anything to the kids!
